Construction Observation

The construction phase of every project is coordinated through our construction related services department to keep the project on schedule and deliver high quality projects to our clients. MCE has a team of dedicated, full-time construction observers and a materials testing lab staffed with highly-qualified material testing technicians. MCE’s construction related services are the best way to reduce problems during and after construction. MCE’s team of dedicated, full-time construction staff have the knowledge and experience to work with the contractor to see that questions are answered and the job stays on schedule.

MCE's Construction Observation Department provides observation and administration services for various cities and counties throughout Arkansas to help oversee the construction of various aviation, transportation and drainage, water and wastewater, and land development projects. Specifically, we serve Departments of Transportation, cities, counties, airports, water and sewer utilities, as well as private owners.

Construction-related observation services include project documentation, daily reports, photos of construction phases, as-builts for record keeping of constructed projects, and pay request preparation/verification for contractor payment.

This department has personnel that are CTTP certified in concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, and also by the Arkansas Rural Water Association; have participated in water and wastewater specialized training, and have been recognized through various American Council of Engineers Companies of Arkansas awards.

The construction observation team provides detailed documentation of the different components during construction that ensure the project is constructed correctly. This benefit ensures that our clients’ obligations to their community needs are being met while keeping projects both on time and on budget.

Construction Materials Testing/Special Inspections

MCE's Materials Testing Department complies with ASTM and AASHTO requirements to provide quality control and quality assurance testing on materials including but not limited to soil, concrete, aggregate and asphalt used on job sites across Arkansas and throughout our region. We are also qualified to provide special inspection services per IBC and Arkansas State Fire Prevention Code requirements. Specifically, our services involving materials testing include concrete field and laboratory testing, grout/mortar field and laboratory testing, nuclear density testing of soils and aggregate, standard and modified proctor testing, CBR testing, gradation/sieve analysis of soil and aggregate materials, Atterberg Limits testing, moisture content, unconfined compressive strength testing of soil and rock, and DCP testing.

Our laboratory certifications include those provided by the Center for Training Transportation Professionals to perform tests on aggregates, soils, asphalt and concrete. We also have AASHTO and ASTM certification through AASHTO Re:Source (formerly AMRL and CCRL).

Our special inspection services include observation of drilled piers, driven piles, micropiles, helical piers, and aggregate piers; observation of concrete and CMU reinforcing elements; continuous concrete placement observation; foundation bearing capacity verification; floor flatness/levelness testing; subgrade verification/undercut recommendations; spray-applied fireproofing inspection; firestop inspection; and post-tension inspection.

Our team provides quality control and assurances that the materials and processes used for our projects meet the needs and standards of the design. We work hard to build relationships with our clients by going above and beyond to ensure that we are able to meet their needs while maintaining the quality of the materials we are testing. We also offer quick turnaround and thoroughness on testing results and reports by using the latest technologies in our lab and field equipment.
